Articulation practice game

Pick a sound, pick where it sits in the word, and work through five picture cards. A grown-up taps how each try went. Stars and coins add up between sessions on this device. Use the speech sound checker first to choose a sound that is expected at your child's age.

This tool is general information for families and students. It is not a screening or diagnostic tool, does not give individual advice, and is not a substitute for an assessment by a registered speech-language pathologist. If you are worried about your child's communication, Ontario families can self-refer to their local Preschool Speech and Language Program at no cost.

Frequently asked questions

How should a parent use this with a child?
Sit together. Tap "Hear it", let your child say the word, and tap the button that matches how it went. "Try again" gives a second go without losing anything. Keep rounds short and stop while it is still fun.
Which sound should we practise?
If a speech-language pathologist has given you a target, use that. Otherwise, use the speech sound checker to find sounds that are expected at your child's age but not yet correct. Practising sounds that are not expected yet is not helpful.
What do beginning, middle and end mean?
The position of the target sound in the word: "sun" (beginning), "bicycle" (middle), "bus" (end). Children often manage a sound in one position before the others, so practising each separately is standard.
Where is progress saved?
Stars, coins and word counts are saved in your browser only, on this device. Nothing is sent to Speechie. The reset button clears it.
