Free tool · for Ontario families

Ontario services finder

Three quick questions. The result lists the public programs your child is eligible for, how to contact them, what funding might apply, and what to check before paying privately.

This tool is general information for families and students. It is not a screening or diagnostic tool, does not give individual advice, and is not a substitute for an assessment by a registered speech-language pathologist. If you are worried about your child's communication, Ontario families can self-refer to their local Preschool Speech and Language Program at no cost.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a doctor's referral?
No. Ontario's Preschool Speech and Language Program and Children's Treatment Centres accept referrals directly from families. Some hospital clinics do require a physician referral.
Can my child be in a public program and see a private clinician at the same time?
Yes. Many families use public services for assessment and parent coaching and add private sessions while waiting or to increase frequency. Tell each provider about the other so goals line up.
What is a SmartStart Hub?
A single point of entry, run by Children's Treatment Centres (and Surrey Place in Toronto), for families with questions about a young child's development. Hub staff connect you to speech and language, occupational therapy, physiotherapy and family supports without you having to repeat your story.
What if we live far from a clinic?
Public programs serve every region of Ontario through local lead agencies, and many offer virtual appointments. Private clinicians also provide virtual sessions across the province.
